Academy beat Tiverton to progress to First Round Proper of FA Youth Cup
FA Youth Cup Third Qualifying Round
Cirencester Town 7 - 1 Tiverton Town
On Wednesday our Academy progressed to the First Round Proper of the FA Youth Cup with a convincing 7-1 win at home to Tiverton Town.
The first half was evenly contested with both teams having chances to go ahead before Asa Cox put Cirencester ahead on 27 mins with a shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Both sides were playing some very good football and although Ciren were playing well, Tiverton looked very quick and dangerous on the break, but were unable to convert their opportunities.
In the second half, Ciren really stepped up a gear and soon went 3-0 up through Jack Smith and Tim Bond before Tiverton responded a minute after our third goal by getting a goal back.
However, after that, it really was all Ciren and Jack Smith scored again on 69 minutes before completing his hatrick five minutes later to make the score 5-1.
Ciren continued to dominate play and Harry Owen, who had been providing telling crosses all game, rounded off a very good display with two goals of his own in the 85th and 87th minutes.
In the final moments of the match, Tiverton looked as if they were going to get a consolation goal when they were awarded a penalty. However, their penalty kick was superbly saved by Jack Chappell.
Ciren now go on to play Mangotsfield United in the First Round Proper of the competition at home next Thursday 1st November on The Corinium's main stadium pitch with a 7:30pm kick off.
The winners of the tie will go on to play away at either Swindon Town or Sholing who play each in the First Round Proper on Wednesday 31st October 2012.
Come along and support our Academy as they try to progress to the Second Round Proper with a possible tie away at Swindon Town as a real incentive.
