Poor decisions cost Development Squad

Cirencester Development v Thame United at the Corinium Stadium for this Floodlit cup match

The kick off was delayed due to traffic problems resulting in the visitors arriving some 60 minutes late, the kick off was at 8.30 and it was within 3 minutes that Ciren took the lead after a low cross from Shepherd into the box saw Hale fire a right footed shot past the Thame keeper. 3 minutes later Ciren should have increased the lead when Hale was clean through with only the keeper to beat however his chipped shot at goal beat the keeper and also the bar! it was a frantic start to the game as in the ninth minute Thame’s West saw his goal bound shot cleared off the line by Pitts.

In the 15 th minute a good ball from Ollie Pitt found Hale on the edge of the box his first time volley was destined for the top right hand corner, but was denied by the acrobatic save of the Thame keeper, Ciren were far the dominant team in the first 40 minutes and with half time looming Thame were awarded a corner and from this, the match was levelled as the imposing Thame centre forward Stuart Barr headed the equaliser.

Half Time 1-1

The second half got off to a similar start as the first half with Ciren attacking down both flanks, it was due to this pressure that saw the Thame’s West go into the book for a late challenge, 4 minutes later Ciren’s Shepherd also saw the same colour, in the 56th minute Thame had a goal disallowed for offside as did Ciren 2 minutes later.

Ciren continued pushing forward and were continually frustrated by some strange referring decisions none more so than in the 59 minute when Ollie Pitt was booked for what seemed to be a foul on him,

Ciren had a good chance in the 71 st minute after some excellent work from Packer who unleashed a fine shot which bought out a good save from the keeper, it was in the 80 th minute when a clearance from the Ciren defence struck a Thame player for a Ciren goal kick however Both the linesman and referee took a different view and awarded Thame a corner and after a goalmouth scramble the ball finished in the Ciren goal and give Thame the lead.

With 10 minutes remaining Ciren piled on the pressure and had several opportunities to score and would have but for some fine saves by the Thame keeper, the match finished with a 2-1 win for Thame, however there was much dismay and discontent amongst the home fans and management due to many poor decisions made by the match officials which it has to be said spoilt a good game.
