Under 11 Centurions in enjoyable match against Pewsey Vale

North Wilts Youth & Minor League

Pewsey Vale U11s 4 – 2 Cirencester Town Centurions U11s

Another game with plenty of goals to enjoy!

Pewsey are having a similar season to ourselves in that they started slowly but have recently found some form and were playing us on the back of two wins on the bounce. They started brightly but the Centurions opened the scoring, which was slightly against the run of play. Jack was tripped in the box after beating two defenders but took his revenge by blasting the penalty to the keepers left leaving him with no chance. 1-0 Centurions.

Pewsey were then awarded a soft penalty after their forward tripped over JJ but JJ saved the penalty and then grabbed the loose ball. The equaliser, however, soon came following a goal mouth scramble. Pewsey’s second goal was debateable as two of their players were off side when the ball was played through but the Referee had a different view and allowed play to continue resulting in the Pewsey forward slotting past JJ.

Just before the halftime whistle the Pewsey keeper made a good save from Simon Crew’s shot from distance leaving the score at 2–1.

The second half was tough for the Centurions as there was no sub available to give anyone a break but their commitment and work rate was fantastic. At some points our goal did seem to lead a charmed life but JJ was immense and, like a magnet seemed to attract the ball whenever Pewsey had a one on one attack (which was too frequently!!). Although two more goals were shipped by midway through the second half, collectively the boys pulled together and really competed for every ball showing true team spirit.

They put in some huge tackles and I think the referee had to ask a couple of them to refrain from screaming as they went in for the ball! The team spirit paid off when Tom Hindson pulled one goal back when his shot was deflected off a Pewsey defender and into the net. This rattled Pewsey and the final quarter of the game was very entertaining, real end to end stuff.

James Gale was man of the match for his performance in goal. Well done James.
