Under 9s just lose out to Painswick in close match

Cotswold Youth League

Painswick U9s 3 - 2 Cirencester Town U9s

Cirencester took a while to get going. Painswick on the other hand were up for the fight right from the off.

The first half was end to end and after some serious midfield combat Painswick found the net to go one up.

Cirencester fought back courageously and had a lot of chances and shots on goal, but the Painswick keeper was outstanding and had everything covered. Cirencester 1 - 0 down at half time.

The second half saw Ollie Claxton-Newman go in goal for Jonny Floyd and it took only 7 minutes for Jonny to get on the score sheet with a well taken left footed shot low into the corner of the goal to level things up at 1 - 1.

Painswick fought back hard and were rewarded with a well taken goal. 2 - 1.

A few changes were made, Aaron Mckillop on at right back and Kian Hawtin on for Kai Genever to strengthen things up. A great break down the left wing by Ben Carter and then a well driven low, waist height cross found a stooping Aaron Burcham head and into the back of the net to level things up at 2 - 2.

Painswick changed their excellent keeper and put him outfield and it wasn't long before he danced through the Ciren midfield and defence to net their third 3 - 2.

The final act of a great game was a Ciren corner which pinged off a defender's head and hit the crossbar, the full time whistle followed shortly after.

A great game of football with end to end drama, goal mouth scrambles and some great individual commitment.

MOM today went deservedly to Joe Horner-Baggs
