Development Team off the mark

The Development team started their Hellenic League Division One West campaign with an excellent draw away at an experienced Clanfield side this evening.

The young team started well but went behind when regular Hellenic goalscorer Kevin Lewis broke through and finished well. Cirencester started to find their feet at this level but went in 1-0 down at the break. After some encouraging words from new Manager Andy Minturn the young team came out for the second half with renewed vigour and confidence and belied their young ages and got on top of a Clanfield side packed with experience. The fitness started to shine through and Cirencester equalised with a great half volley at the back post from Connor Teague who had showed up well all night. A solid performance at the back in particular from Jamie Dunn and Liam James and committed performances all through the side saw the side nearly sneak a win, though credit also to goalkeeper Mike Hedges for a good save low down near the end to retain the point.

Manager Andy Minturn and his assistants Rich Smith and Rich Pitt will have been delighted with the endeavour the team showed and it can only bode well for the future.

The team go to Easington Sports on Saturday then entertain Hook Norton on Wednesday 24th, a fixture put back 24 hours from the original scheduled date of Tuesday 23rd August.

A big well done to all of the team and management this evening!
