On Saturday 26th March Cirencester Town Football Club ran a Football in the Community Fun Day. Two local schools, Chesterton Primary School and Powell’s Church of England Primary School were invited to the Corinium Stadium for some coaching and then a game against each other.

First team players Mark Draycott and Justyn McKay gave up their time to spend an hour coaching each School team on a variety of aspects of the game including control, passing, crossing and shooting. Following this the Schools took to the pitch to play a friendly game against each other. The game was played in right spirit and in a close fought contest Chesterton edged out Powell’s 2-1 with everybody putting in a lot of effort.

017.jpgAfter the game the children were then treated to a pre match meal before lining up to act as match day mascots for the first team fixture against Weymouth in the Zamaretto Premier Division which Cirencester went on to win 3-0. The children watched the game and were very vocal in their support of the Cirencester team and thoroughly enjoyed their day.

Organiser Steve Hale said “It was a great day all-round, the weather was good and the children not only put a great deal of effort into both the coaching and the game, their behaviour throughout the day was a credit to the children themselves, their school and their parents. I would like to thank my two coaches Mark Draycott and Justyn McKay who gave up their free time to coach the children and did a fantastic job. I would also like to thank Mark O’Brien who arranged all the food for the children. This is definitely a venture we would like to repeat in the future as we would like to get more involved with Schools in the area and the Community in general.”

The following couple of days saw the club receive a few emails thanking them for the event:

Steve,

Just wanted to thank, you Justyn and Mark for welcoming Chesterton Primary school to Cirencester Town FC. All of the children (and me) enjoyed the day and the opportunity to play at Ciren Town.

Thanks again
