Development Team Win In Quarter Final
Our Development Team beat Wootton Bassett Town on Tuesday evening in the Quarter final of the Uhlsport Hellenic League Chairman's Reserve Challenge Cup in a Penalty Shoot Out, when the teams were drawing 2-2 after 90 minutes and there were no further goals in Extra Time.
Our lads made hard work of it, spurning several chances in the first half, only for Wootton Bassett to go ahead in the 37th minute.
Paul Banks scored in the 76th minute with a header following a long throw from Ellis Dunton on the right flank, but Wootton Bassett scored from the Penalty spot in the 89th minute to take the match into extra time.
With no further goals, the match then went to a Penalty Shootout.
Jamie Dunn converted the first Penalty before Wootton Bassett failed with their first attempt.
All the other Penalties for both sides were successfully converted with Ellis Dunton, Paul Banks, Ollie Pitt and Tom Willetts scoring for Ciren. After Ciren had scored from their final Penalty, Wootton Bassett did not take their final spot kick leaving the final score as 5-3.
So Ciren go through to the Semi Finals. To date, the only other team definitely through to the Semi Finals are the leaders of the Reserve Division 2 East, Thame United, who won 1-0 away at Ascot in the Quarter Finals.
The other two Quarter Finals have yet to be played:
Leaders of Reserve Division 1, Highworth Town, are away at Penn & Tylers Green on Saturday 2nd April 2011.
Gloucester City, leaders of Reserve Division 2 West, are at home to Rayners Lane on Saturday 9th April 2011.
We will inform you of the Draw for the Semi Finals as soon as it has been announced.
