Bedford Town Match Preview

On Saturday Cirencester Town take to the road when they travel to Bedford Town who currently lay 17th in the Zamaretto Premier Division.

Bedford have had a tough season and come into this game on the back of six straight defeats and have only scored once in those six games but now find themselves in a battle to avoid relegation so they will be scrapping for their lives. 

Amongst their ranks they do have a recognized goal-scorer in Ian Draycott (pictured left) who after scoring 24 goals last season currently has 12 of the 33 goals scored by Bedford in the league this season. Also in attack they boast Josh Sozzo who had a brief spell with St Albans City in their Nationwide Conference campaign and has also seen service at Hitchin Town. Bedford Town are now managed by Ady Hall who has been involved with the club for the past three years stepping up from reserve team manager to assistant manager of the first team and then took over from the now Didcot Town boss Adi Williams who resigned earlier in the campaign.

After last Saturday’s convincing 3-0 win against Weymouth, Cirencester come into this game looking to finish the season strongly. Although not mathematically secure from relegation, 8 points from their remaining 5 games would secure it. However those 8 points would only be needed were Didcot who have just fallen into the final relegation spot after Weymouth’s 1-0 win at Swindon Supermarine to win all 6 of their remaining games which looks a very tough ask.

In the first game against Bedford Town, Cirencester Town came out triumphant with a 4-2 home success with Jody Bevan bagging a hat-trick. Jody has now moved onto 15 league goals and has proved a thorn in many a side this season with his hustle and bustle style.

At the back Sean Wood (pictured left) in his unaccustomed role at right back over recent weeks has impressed with having more time on the ball to deliver good quality forward passes into the strikers and he will be looking to carry on that form.

On the other side of the pitch Richard Mansell (pictured right) who joined a few months ago from local rivals Bishops Cleeve has gone from strength to strength as he has settled into the left back spot. Good short and long range passing coupled with his ability to get forward down the left flank has given the team some much needed impetus. Last Saturday against Weymouth this culminated in him deservedly winning the Four Pillars Man of the Match award.

Ellis Dunton who picked up a knock in the Weymouth game came through a Development team game on Tuesday night so should be fit to take his place in the squad. Also available for selection after suspension are Tom Etheridge and Jamie Reid.
