Dick Reed - A True Cirencester Town Stalwart
Last week came the very sad news that Dick Reed, one of our club's real stalwarts, passed away at the age of 94.
Dick had been a member of Cirencester Town FC for over fifty years and in his younger years had been a keen footballer.
He worked at RAF Kemble and in his spare time spent many hours with his friend, Charlie Squires, helping out at the club on a voluntary basis, looking after the pitch and doing many other maintenance jobs as well.
In recent years, he was still a regular supporter at our first team matches, both home and away, with his sons, Bernard and Roy. Despite his advancing years, he often showed his fitness and put many other supporters to shame by standing with his friends on the terracing throughout the whole match. In the middle picture on the right, Dick, on the far left, is seen standing with his friends watching our away match at Banbury in January 2007.
In 2005, he celebrated his 90th Birthday with a party at The Corinium, when our first team manager, Brian Hughes, presented him with a framed and autographed photograph of our first team squad
At Sunday's FA Cup match at home to North Leigh, we held a minute's silence before kick off in Dick's memory, and his contribution to the success of our Club over such a long time will not be forgotten.
All of us at the Club would like to express our condolences to Dick's family at this sad time.
Dick's funeral is being held at Watermoor Church at 2pm on Monday 21st September 2009. This is being followed by a gathering at The Corinium Stadium at 4pm approx. to celebrate his life. Everyone is welcome to come along.
