Ciren Lose To Truro In Entertaining Match

Ciren played their first home match of the season last night against Truro City, one of the favourites for the title, having been runaway winners of the Toolstation Western League last season. After a fairly even first half, the experienced White Tigers simply roared away with the result after the break.

In a fast paced match, Ciren took the lead on 19 minutes with a scrambled goal by Nathan Haisley after the Truro keeper had fumbled on his line. Truro then started to take control of the play and scored two goals through Scott Walker and Stewart Yetton.

Ciren hit back quickly to 2 - 2 on 41 minutes when the keeper again fumbled. Matt Williams, with Andy Minturn close beside him, put the ball into the net. Truro exploited a defensive mistake minutes later to lead again through a superb, first time chip from Joe Broad.

Within a minute Ciren were awarded what looked like a dubious penalty.  Martin Rice redeemed himself from his earlier shaky performance with a full length save off Matt William's well-taken penalty. Unfortunately for Ciren this was probably the turning point of the match.

In the second half Truro scored an early goal by Stewart Yetton and, relaxing, played some lovely one touch football to take control of the game. Tom King, with the defence grimly refusing to concede in front of him, was safe and strong in keeping his goal secure.

Until the 88th minute when a rebound after a free kick led to a fumble and gave Jake Ash the chance to make it a nap hand for The White Tigers.

Next match is this Saturday 23rd August, home to Gosport Borough, kick off 3:00pm. This is followed quickly by a local derby on Bank Holiday Monday 25th August, away at Bishops Cleeve, kick off 3pm.
