The Academy Lose Out In The South West Counties Youth League Cup Final

Exeter City 4  Cirencester Town 0

Despite the 4-0 result, the Cirencester boys put on a excellent display at St. James Park in the South West Counties League Cup Final.

Cirencester started the first five minutes nervously but then controlled the game with the midfield trio of Rob Dean, Sean Bailey and Jamie Moore in outstanding form. The Exeter City goalkeeper denied the Cirencester attack on a couple of occasions and made the best save of the game diving low to his right to deny a brilliant free kick by Rob Dean.

It was completely against the run of play that Exeter took a half-time lead from a corner scoring two minutes before the break with a free header inside the six yard box.

The second half saw Cirencester concede a couple of sloppy goals despite creating a couple of chances themselves. They had the ball in the net but James Guthrie was ruled offside by the linesman. Cirencester conceded a fourth goal to give Exeter City a very flattering result considering the amount of possession Cirencester enjoyed throughout the game.

The Academy now complete this season's fixtures with a league game away at Newport County on Wednesday 30th April.
